Jonathan Power is British and grew up in Oldham and Liverpool. He is a journalist, filmmaker and writer who is best known for his weekly column on foreign affairs that ran in the International Herald Tribune (now the International New York Times) for 17 years. He was the paper's only continuous, non-American, European-based, foreign affairs columnist.

For twenty years his longer articles appeared in Encounter, Prospect and World Policy Journal. His Encounter article, "The New Proletariat" (September, 1974) was regarded as a profound analysis of racial strife to come. His interviews of leading political figures from every continent have been printed all over the world.

In 1972 he won the silver medal at the Venice Film Festival for his BBC documentary film, "It's Ours Whatever They Say".

He is the author of 8 books. The latest is "Conundrums Of Humanity- The Big Foreign Policy Questions Of Our Day".
